The Nova Kakhovka Dam is a hydroelectric dam located on the Dnieper River in southern Ukraine. It was built between 1950 and 1956 to provide electricity and irrigation water to the surrounding area. On June 6, 2023, the dam collapsed due to an explosion related to the Russina invasion of Ukraine, causing an environmental and economic catastrophe. The destruction of the dam has left thousands homeless and threatens to impact food and agricultural supplies. Stopping the water supply to 31 irrigation systems in the fields of Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhya. Without irrigation, fields in southern Ukraine will "turn into deserts" in a few years. The destruction of the dam is also an environmental disaster.
